The Colonel's Cottage, Mukteshwar, Nainital, India

It is my pleasure to introduce ‘The Colonel’s Cottage’, a hill resort made by me with special people like you in mind. Nestled in the serene Mukteshwar hills in the Nainital district of the Kumaon hills of Uttarakhand State, The Colonel’s Cottage is a home-like lodging place with boarding facilities to help you wind down completely and de-stress yourself as you laze around in the cool, mountain breeze, with the ever gentle sun keeping you warm and happy. While affording homely comforts like an ante-room attached to the main living space, carpeted flooring, electric blanket, hot-air blower, a well-appointed bathroom, a long balcony giving you an excellent view of the valley, the place itself offers a clean environment with fresh, cool air that is a rare commodity in congested cities we all normally live due to occupational constraints. ‘The Colonel’s Cottage’ has a lot of open space for you to bask in the bright sun, and in turn enjoy sitting around a bonfire in the late evening.

Mukteshwar hill sits high in the Kumaon hills at an altitude of 2286 meters (7500 feet), 45 km from Nainital, 55 km from Haldwani, and 343 km from Delhi. From October through March, the Great Himalayas is clearly visible from Mukteshwar heights, and a 180-degree panoramic view of the Himalayas can be enjoyed. Surely, the place is a photographer's delight. The other sightseeing places in Mukteshwar include Mahadev Mandir of Lord Shiva, Indian Veterinary Research Institute established during the erstwhile British regime, dense forests, trekking routes,  and local handicraft outlets. But the place that must be on top of the list of the tourist is the location where the great bard Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore spent a considerable time writing his Gitanjali that bagged the Nobel Prize for literature. The place is just 12 km from The Colonel's Cottage, and it will be our pleasure and pride to take you down to visit The Writers' Bungalow, as it is called.

We are ourselves a husband-wife team, Anita and Nagen, and we have great pleasure in extending this warm invitation to enjoy our hospitality in our ‘Colonel’s Cottage’. We assure you we will go the extra mile to facilitate you relax in the anonymity of the hills, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy daily life. To make you feel totally at home, there is a husband-wife couple of the local region, resident at The Colonel's Cottage to provide you with the choicest Kumaon, other North Indian, and now world-famous South Indian cuisine to satiate your palate and make your stay memorable. We also have a vehicle at hand to take the guests around, just in case a guest arrives in a public transport.

Our tariff is Rs. 3500/- per night per room that includes bed tea for two. We would only be too glad to work out an itinerary, if you can kindly forward your dates with your special preferences and ideas for your holiday. We hope to host you in your very own 'Colonel's Cottage' in the near future.
